Thoughts of Summer

It is not easy to choose an image of Summer 2010.  This one, taken en route to Devon in the height of summer, from a fast moving car and using my mobile phone, encapsulates a tumultous Summer season: blue sky in the horizon, ripening yellow rape seed and the green green grass of home....

Passing Seasons

The seasons pass so quickly since my return from Kansas in April.  So much water has passed under the bridge.  Time to pause and take stock of the beauty of nature in the garden, and reflect on the signposts of a pivotal summer.

The acer in the garden has recovered and has been resplendent in its crimson leaves.  The hot summer has singed some of the leaves, leaving little curled up balls of shrivelled, brittle leaves.

Castle Combe, Wiltshire

Castle Combe, one of the prettiest villages south of the M4 motorway, is justly famous for the picturesque homogeneity of is ancient houses, built of Cotswold stone and bedecked with flowers. With the river bubbling through the centre, Castle Coombe is now a conservation area, with double yellow lines througout the village, allowing passing vehicular traffic only.

My heart sings, of blue skies, warm evening breezes, and the endless joys that nature bring.

Corsham, North Wiltshire

The charming village of Corsham, in North Wiltshire, was basking in the warm glow of late summer light.  Walking around in the nearly empty High Street, you can see the honey yellow Cotswold stone adorning the 18th century architecture.

The spire of St Bart, the village church,
host to two weddings and an assortment
of ladies in feathered head gear
The 17th century Flemish cottages
The impressive town hall

Corsham Court

Corsham Court, a stately home dating from the Saxon days, was a treasure house of the rare, unexpected, and supremely beautiful.

The approach to Corsham Court from the front gate,
and at once the vast expanse of lawn
takes your breath away

of a park with lakes, grazing sheep,

exquisite treasures from all corners of the world

Scenes from the Underground

How often do you find the London Underground nearly empty of commuters and travellers? It is almost surreal to witness this amount of empty space in a heaving metropolis.

Summer just gone

Summer has quietly slipped by.  Late August, the first taste of autumn is in the air.

Moving between sites this summer, it is easy to forget that there had been glorious summer days, when a lunch time stroll along the River Thames provided a delightful break from the pressures of work.  The camera phone captured a few idyllic spots.

Sweet scents of summer

Blooms to welcome home a weary traveller

Fleeting memories of Kista, Sweden

It was a quick trip in and out of Kista, dubbed Sweden's Silicon Valley.  The Arlanda Airport at Stockholm looks spanking new, all glass and wood.  As travellers walk from the arrival gate to the terminal building, the walls are lined with photos and names of famous Swedes, with centre place at the exit given to Abba and Bjorn Borg, right next to the portrait of the reigning monarch and his Queen.

Kista, about 14 km from Stockholm, is home to a host of telecommunications and IT companies.  The greeness and cleanliness of the place are a refreshing change to the UK cityscape.  But where have all the people gone?

Here are a few images from Kista.

Beaulieu Series - National Motor Museum

A truly world renowned motor museum, with vehicles from each motoring era.  The fun vehicles used in advertisements tickled my fancy.

The famous Reliant Robin from the TV series "Fools and Horses".
On the windscreen was a note: "Tax disc in the post"

Beaulieu Series - Sculptures

Unexpected finds at Beaulieu, in the heart of New Forest, Hampshire.  Let the sculptures speak for themselves.
