A little bit of life

The hotel window affords a sweeping view of the Town Centre Plaza at Leawood, including the only ice rink in Johnson County.

The thaw is on.  Even on a foggy morning, it is evident that the white carpet that has enveloped Kansas for more than a week is slowly receding into distant memory. The pristine whiteness is giving way to a muddy slush.

The ice rink is once again packed with revellers, mostly going round in circles.  A father was seen teaching his son to skate.  There was a tenderness which the camera lens could detect from the 4th floor of the hotel room.

Today, I noticed the fuel consumption of the Toyota Avalon - a whopping 16.4 mpg.  The locking mechanism was also a brand new experience.  For a moment or two, I thought that the car door would not lock until the Hertz help desk told me that standing next to the car with the key fob will automatically open the car door.  Here's the catch, there was no car manual in the glove compartment or anywhere in the car.

It was back to the Bristol restaurant tonight, before the deluge of diners mobbed this popular place.  I had the famous Maryland crab cakes, plus a bowl of Lobster cob salad.  In it were roasted corn nuts, a new ingredient in my personal food dictionary.

The solitude at weekend was engulfing.  A message to my beloved -

A day slow in going
Echoes of your voice
Lingers into the night
